leather care tips
We source from the best.
Sourcing is the center of our ethos as a company. We source only the highest grade, US-raised bovine hides that are a by-product of the beef industry. We source directly from a single US tannery that holds the highest ethical standards and environmentally friendly practices in the industry. One thing that is important to remember regarding leather, is that it is an organic artifact, and as lustrous as your new bag may be, it will, when left to its own devices, become desiccated and dull. That is why maintenance of your leather is crucial if you want to enjoy it for as long as possible. How to clean.
How to clean
The general principle is simple: remove dirt build-up by wiping down with a soft applicator, and then begin the conditioning process. For the applicator, we recommend sheepskin or a cotton terry wax cloth.
How to condition & protect
Think of conditioning as moisturizer for your leather, which will dry out over time. To prevent dryness and wrinkling, dab a dollop of conditioner on a soft applicator and rub gently all over.
Our favorite leather conditioner is Smith’s Leather Balm, which consists purely of organic cocoa butter, organic beeswax, and 100% pure sweet almond oil. That's it. The natural properties in this balm will simulate and supplement the natural oils of leather and will help keep your bag in tip-top shape.Condition as needed and dry thoroughly in an airy room. Word of caution: conditioners and protectants may alter the hue of dyed leather, so test first on an inconspicuous corner.
Let water spills dry naturally. High-heat measures like using a hairdryer will only cause the leather to crinkle and dry out.
Store your bag in a dustbag and fill it with stuffing (kraft paper works great) to maintain its shape.
